Going Digital-Streamlining Processes with ModernHawk

Now is a perfect time to begin reducing or eliminating the use of paper in your operations. It’s time to see how transitioning to electronic record keeping can help streamline your processes and even save you time and money.

It is a difficult decision to make the leap to committing to electronic record keeping, Recently, a few clients of ModernHawk successfully went through the process of becoming authorized to use an electronic record keeping system. We wanted to share their exciting news as well as a few ways ModernHawk helped them along the way.

Where to Start

The first place an operator should begin is with Advisory Circular 120-78A. This FAA publication provides the standards and guidance for electronic signatures, electronic record keeping, and electronic manual systems. The Advisory Circular also outlines the requirements of the application process as well as the system requirements. Ensure your tracking program adheres to this AC and work with your POI at the FAA to work through the application process. ModernHawk is committed to helping companies succeed in this process.

KIT HeliOps is a new part 135 helicopter operator who is laying the foundation for a successful program. With motivated personnel in place, KIT has been steadily moving forward with our conformity processes; recently adding aircraft, and gaining an A025 Electronic Record Keeping approval to match their digital flight bag.

Being that technical record keeping and maintenance tracking is a HUGE part of the regulatory compliance for the FAA, Modernhawk is perfect to help KIT stay current. Web based, easily searchable, highly organized, customizable, and well supported - exactly the maintenance record tool needed.

Going Through the Process with KIT HeliOps

KIT HeliOps was gracious enough to share their experience with using ModernHawk and their authorization for electronic record keeping. KIT worked closely with the FAA and ModernHawk to work through their A025 approval quickly.

Here is a comment from their Director of Maintenance, Evan Welsch:

KIT HeliOps is a new part 135 helicopter operator who is laying the foundation for a successful program. With motivated personnel in place, we have been steadily moving forward with our conformity processes; recently adding aircraft, and gaining an A025 Electronic Record Keeping approval to match our digital flight bag. Both of these approvals demand that a robust record keeping system be in place to adhere to requirements in AC 120-78A. Once our airframe and engine technical records were onboard in ModernHawk, we had zero trouble presenting the information to the FAA and quickly getting an approval. Not only did these conformity inspections go well, but the FAA inspectors (with vastly different aviation backgrounds) had no trouble navigating the MH software on their first time using it.

KIT HeliOps takes a very systematic and organized approach to their operations, ensuring they exceed the standard in every way. ModernHawk has been working with KIT and their Director of Operations, Kaden Tomlinson for over a year now and have been extremely impressed with what he and his team are building. KIT has laid the foundation for a very successful aviation company, below is what they had to say about working with ModernHawk:

For KIT HeliOps, having a technical records resource which is flexible and easy to navigate has been a major asset. As a small company, our DOM is taking care of the technical records and maintenance tracking – a position usually filled by another payroll for larger companies. However, DOM’s usually come from a maintenance background, which is not necessarily a technical records, FAA regs, or maintenance tracking expert. Being that technical record keeping and maintenance tracking is a HUGE part of the regulatory compliance for the FAA, Modernhawk is perfect to help KIT stay current. Web based, easily searchable, highly organized, customizable, and well supported - exactly the maintenance record tool needed.
